Hireable facilities: Ambient pressure diesel chamber

This ambient pressure chamber is used to test injection hardware, and develop experiments initiated on the Proteus reciprocating rapid compression machine.

Its main characteristics are:

  • ambient pressure and temperature
  • quiescent air motion
  • the ability to record data when in-cylinder pressure and temperature are not required parameters
  • the same injection capabilities as the diesel Proteus rapid compression machine.

Experimental studies to date have included microscopic imaging of sprays, phase Doppler anemometry (PDA) and high-speed video.
