Postgraduate artists and media makers unveil their work at the final graduate exhibition of 2024.
8 July 2024
Following the successful graduate and end of year shows in June, the MA Show will showcase the work of postgraduate students from four courses within the School of Art and Media.
Among those showing will be , who studied Sequential Design/Illustration MA. Umair gave himself the small task of narrating and illustrating the technological journey of humanity from learning from nature right through to AI.
He said: “I decided to develop a map that was the essence of the whole journey.“
I drew the map by hand then I explored ways of adding layers of meaning on top of it. There are some layers of existing technologies added to make them more interactive and explore the spatial aspect of the map.“
The map features elements such as birdsong in certain parts. My undergraduate degree was in architecture and I had previously studied engineering and I was also interested in biology and social science. I had different skill sets and I was able to bring them together in this project.”
Ümair had never heard of the course before deciding to apply, but immediately knew it was something he wanted to do: “I remember scrolling down the course description on the webpage, and getting more and more excited about it as I read on. I am so happy that I picked this course, because it delivered everything on the website and much more. The interdisciplinary approach was just perfect, and all the aspects of the program worked in complete harmony with each other.”

“I try to capture the essence of rural life and depict it in a raw, unprocessed form, emphasising the importance of authenticity and realism in photography” she said: “This series of works reflects my observation of the disconnected living conditions in rural China, and attempts to reveal to people the backward corners of the earth that are often overlooked through photography.”
She said of her studies: “Pursuing a Fine Art MA at the University of 麻豆果冻传媒 has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to deepen my artistic practice and explore the boundaries between photography and painting."
The MA Show runs from Saturday 6 July 6 until 13 July.
